Do you know what I regret so much in my home? That I decided a year ago that I don't need smart thermostats. Digital is enough, right? Well, unfortunately not ... Fortunately, I received several devices from the Z-Home store, including the Heatit Thermostat! How did it work? The answer can be found in the review!
In the apartment I have floor heating. In the set with it I got knob thermostats, which I immediately replaced for digital versions, but without the WiFi option. As a result, I never use them and the temperature is constant. That's why I was happy when I learned that I would have the opportunity to try out the Heatit thermostat.
This is the first of several Heatit equipment that I will have the opportunity to test. Heatit is a Swedish company that deals with smart home and produces thermostats, smart buttons and other smart home components.
Heatit thermostat - first impression
The thermostat was packaged in a square cardboard box. Inside were three parts (main part, frame and touch panel), floor sensor and instructions.
The thermostat is cute and minimalist. It fits nicely with a white wall. It fits into a typical electrical box, so mounting it shouldn't be a problem - but I'll mention it in the next part of this review. The thermostat has three touch buttons which we use to control it. Although they are white and on a white background, they are clearly visible.
Alternatively, you can choose the option with a black frame and a black panel. Then you will adjust it to, for example, a more modern interior. Everything is really elegant.
When it comes to communication, we communicate via Z-Wave, and more specifically Z-Wave Plus. So we need a gate. However, there is no need for it to be a Heatit gate! The manufacturer is open to various possibilities and thanks to this we can control it, e.g. from the Fibaro gate. I will mention this in the next article. Today I will present the device in a completely open system, which is openHAB!
Installation is relatively simple, but I recommend that it should be performed by people with permissions. Remember that electricity is not a toy and it's easy to hurt yourself!
As I wrote earlier, the Heatit thermostat fits into ordinary cans, so you can mount it in place of the previous thermostat. According to the instructions, four cables are connected to it:
- heating neutral
- phase from heating.
The thermostat works after 230 V, so be careful when connecting it!
The Heatit has an internal temperature sensor, but we also get a floor sensor in the set. It should run in the wall and end below the floor for good temperature readings. It is worth remembering about this when renovating the apartment. However, if you already have an existing sensor, you don't have to worry that it will have to be replaced. Heatit will use it without any problems.
Alternatively, we can also connect an external temperature sensor, also by cable. The thermostat offers the option of reading energy consumption. To be able to measure it, we must connect both heating cables. After the thermostat has been properly installed, we can start evaporating it.

The next step is to enable the search mode after Z-Wave in your gateway. Then hold the middle button for two seconds. After proper separation, the thermostat should inform you about it with the appropriate command.
The alternative is the automatic method - SmartStart. In this case, just scan the QR code, which is located on the bottom of the thermostat box. There is nothing more to do, and Heatit should appear in a maximum of 10 minutes.
I tested the Heatit thermostat in the OpenHub system. How was he doing? Very good. Heatit offers quite a few options. We can, among others:
- set the temperature remotely
- remotely check the temperature,
- set heating schedules.
And all this from the application level. Of course, what interests me the most is the heating schedules. Smart heating is all about placing them right. So we can create a working week and weekend, divide the day into zones and perfectly match the heating to your needs.
The bedroom may have a lower temperature, and the bathroom may be higher. It is about making it as comfortable as possible!
A very nice option is also to check the power consumption. Thanks to this, we'll find out how much electricity our heating consumes, and as a result, we'll count how much it costs us!
Heatit thermostat every day
The thermostat should be wireless. And that's it! Thanks to this, we can remotely check its temperature and control it. After a few days of using Heatit, I managed to forget about wired thermostats.
Touch buttons are also useful when I don't want to reach for the phone. Then I set the temperature I want, standing by the thermostat. Its advantage is definitely openness. Having a Z-Wave gateway, we can simply connect it. Without a gateway, it will still work, of course, but it won't show all the possibilities, such as:
- Possibility to set virtually any operating mode (reference sensor indication as internal or external, turning on or off the floor limiter, combinations of these two settings),
- A wide range of possible associations (from relay control, through temperature sensors),
- A wide range of parameters configured from the control panel,
Am I satisfied with the Heatit thermostat? Yes, it fulfills its role and is aesthetic, and this is important. If you have a knob or a digital thermostat, I suggest you consider another solution, which is a smart thermostat. It is convenient to use and can simplify life. For example, when schedules become outdated, and we may not necessarily have time to enter all rooms and set a lower temperature.
Zatem jeśli Wasz dom “stoi” na Z-Wave, tym bardziej śmiało możecie wybrać termostat Heatit Z-TRM3. Można kupić go m.in. na From-Home. Price? PLN 658 It's not cheap, but it's the standard price for smart thermostats.
