Aqara Hub is the heart of your smart home if it is based on Aqara or Xiaomi products. But maybe not everything in the configuration of the device went like crazy, although you followed the instructions? If for this reason you are here and have any problems with the application, then below I will describe to you how to make the device work beautifully. And if the first configuration is before you, it's even better! The less stress, the happier the man is ????

If you are interested in what Aqara Hub is, I refer you to my review, in which I describe in detail my experience of using this device - Link. In this post, I will focus on step-by-step configuration of Aqara Hub. Staying in places that could be problematic. Some chapters will also be divided into IOS (iPhone) and Android (Samsung, Xiaomi, Huawei, LG, Sony etc.). Because some of the activities we do in the phone's settings.

How to start - Aqara Hub configuration?

Ok, what do we need to start with? We need to have Aqara Hub in hand. If you have a European version, that's enough, but if you have a copy from China, you also need an adapter to the Polish outlet. For this you must have the Mi Home application installed. Why should you choose Mi Home instead of Aqara Home? Because Mi Home offers the same as the Aqara App plus all Xiaomi, Roborock and several other movie products.

With all this, we can start by looking for a place to set Gateway (Aqara Hub). It should be located in the center of the house or apartment. It is with him that all devices will communicate, so if possible, it is worth each of them to be relatively close.

Adding to the application

After installing the application, we can add the first equipment to it.

Before we do that, however, the important question arises: where did you buy the Aqara Hub from? If from China, set the region to mainland China, and if in Europe, then to Europe.

All right, we can now proceed to adding the device and configuration. We have three ways to do this:

If the device works via Bluetooth, then click on the device search icon and the application will find it itself.

We can also enter the device name.

After you start adding equipment, the following screen will appear before us, informing you what to do first: hold the button at the top for 10 seconds (hold it as long as you need) until the yellow light of the option starts flashing, i.e. so-called Pairing a device. We mark it later The operation has been confirmed and choose which home Gateway will be in. This is the basic configuration of Aqara Xiaomi.

At this point, two important activities related to this button should be mentioned:

Holding it for more than 10 seconds causes the device to restart. If I accidentally hang you, this is the best way to restart it. The basic rule for all computer equipment also applies here.

A quick click of the button for more than 10 seconds brings you back to the factory settings. This means that Aqara Hub will forget all the devices associated with it and you will have to start everything again. This is called last resort when Hub is completely unresponsive.

In the next step, the application allows you to add your device to HomeKit. For this reason, the next paragraph is intended only for iPhone users. If your device works on Android, you can skip this paragraph.

HomeKit in Xiaomi Aqara - how it works

Aqara Hub is compatible with Apple HomeKit, which is really great information. The ability to attach it to the Home app appears as soon as pairing begins. Again, we have several options on how we can do this.

  1. We take a photo of the HomeKit sticker, which is on both the box and the device. It is safer to remove the sticker from the device.
  2. If there is a wireless connection option, then just put the iPhone to the device (there is no such option for Aqara Hub).
  3. click I do not have or cannot scan the codelater Enter the code... and enter it manually. Good advice: if there is a problem with HomeKit, then use this method.

After this stage, the window for adding the device to the network will pop up. We give of course Ok. We can go further through this.

Here are some more good tips should you run into problems:

  1. Make sure that there are no special characters in the password or name.
  2. Aqara Hub works only on the 2,4 GHz band, not 5 GHz.
  3. If there are still problems with the network at home, then take a look at the very end of the guide, I added there how to solve the problem with the network step by step using DNS.

After a moment of pairing, we'll move to the Home application. There, we will be able to change the name of both the alarm option and the lamp, and add them to the selected room.

At this point, Aqara Hub is already fully integrated with Apple HomeKit.

We go back to the Xiaomi Home application, to the HomeKit tab and click on the device to add it here as well. The sync screen will appear.

Later, we add the device to the room and give it a name (we do it separately for the Home and Xiaomi Home applications). At the end we choose whether we want to share our device with someone (e.g. household members).

Finally, click the device, the initialization window appears (a few seconds) and consent to data processing. And voila! Aqara Hub is fully operational!

If you want to use the full capabilities of Aqara Hub and are wondering how to automate it, I invite you to our automation guide. And if you are looking for a hardware review, I invite you to our review of the entire Aqara solution. As you can see, China is now a country that provides advanced, good quality technology. This does not mean, however, that Xiaomi products are perfect.

Network problem and Aqara Hub

Finally, the promised paragraph about network problems. One of the problems with the Aqara Hub connection is DNS. The previous points are very important, i.e. the name and passwords without special characters and the 2,4 GHz band. However, if this is not enough, then you can try the solution below. With it, you may be able to resolve this embarrassing issue.

For IOS:

  1. You enter the phone settings.
  2. You turn on Wi-Fi.
  3. You click the badge "and" at the network that is in your home.
  4. clique Configure DNS.
  5. You change to Manually.
  6. You are changing DNS to .

Now it should work, and when it connects, go back to this option and select again Automatically.

For Android:

  1. You enter the phone settings
  2. You turn on the network that is in your home.
  3. clique Connections.
  4. You click this network again.
  5. You go down and click Advanced.
  6. W IP settings you change from DHCP to static.
  7. You change DNS 1 to ..

Now it should work, and once it connects, then return to this option and select again DHCP.
